Where To Buy Patagonia Cheap

Traveling to Patagonia cheaply is possible, but takes some advance planning and organization to ensure you get the best flight deals, cheap accommodation and can make the most of the tax discounts available for paying in dollars.
I recently raved about it for getting me $210,000 CLP ($326 USD) return flights for to Easter Island (find out more about my tips for getting cheap flights to Easter Island and other essential information).
Further south, Punta Arenas (from $41,000 CLP ($65 USD) per day) is cheaper for car rental than Puerto Natales (from $51,000 CLP ($81 USD) per day). Car hire is generally far cheaper in Chile than Argentina.
As with hostales and residenciales above, more and more cabañas are appearing on booking sites, but you can often get cheaper deals and find more options by using Google Maps and booking directly with the owners.
Hi Steph! Thanks for the great blog and especially the tips on the money matters! We have booked our campsites on the W trek, but have immense trouble trying to make contact with Camping Pehoe in the Torres del Paine park.We want to spend two nights in November there before we start our W hike.We have tried numerous times to book on their website, but no luck. We even sent emails and whatsapps to a guy who is supposed to do the bookings.Could you maybe shed light on this problem or direct us elsewhere? If Camping Pehoe is not a possibility, do you know of any other affordable campsites in Torres?Hoping to hear from you!Tinie from South Africa.
Don't forget about the yearly Patagonia Black Friday sale, as well, where some of the season's best-selling items go on promo for unbelievable prices. Just around the corner will be the Patagonia Cyber Monday sale, so keep checking back here to ensure that you don't miss out. Remember that you can also use a Patagonia discount code at checkout to save on everything you need all year long!
Patagonia was one of the first clothing companies in the world to fully switch to organic cotton. And that was back in 1996, long before most other labels were even aware of the damage that conventional cotton farming was doing to people and the environment all over the world. It was a revolutionary move, because at that time there was hardly any organic cotton available anywhere. So Patagonia started creating its own partnerships with cotton farmers.
Hi Dave, cool to hear from you. I am more into flowing water, so I have not fished any still water in Patagonia. However, during my research I came across several lakes where people have fished. So, I suppose there is also good fishing from floating tubes which allows you to reach remoter locations. Bear in mind that the Patagonia wind picks up quickly and is incredibly strong. I only came a cross a fishing boat floating down the Simpson river once.Hope this helps and tight lines,Tom
I am organizing a group of 4 people traveling to Puerto Natales in Jan-Feb 2021. We are looking to do some self guided fishing while we are there. We would like to know if it is possible to rent equipment locally in Puerto Natales that we could keep for the duration of our stay, 7 days. Our hope is to be able to get out of bed and fish in the morning, then fish again in the afternoon. We will have access to both cars and bikes during our stay. Is it possible to bike to locations where we cold reasonably find fish? We will be catch & release for the most part, only souvenirs will be photos, hopefully lots of them.
Hi Emanuel,Sounds like an amazing trip. Yet, I do not have any information on fishing gear rentals. I think your best bet is a fishing store or contact a guide. Perhaps after a few guided days, he/she is willing to lend you some gear. Given that I stayed around Coyhaique, I do not have any information on Puerto Natale, but it should be possible to bike somewhere to fish.If I were you, I would try to contact guides directly, in order to avoid any intermediaries. Look up fly fishing guides on facebook or ask a fishing store in Chile.I wish you a great trip and tight lines.Cheers,Tom
Hostels: Prices fluctuate according to the season and get more expensive the further south you are. A night in Bariloche costs $14 USD in high season, whereas in Ushuaia expect to pay at least $24 USD.
Luckily, most types of accommodation have cooking facilities, so while your diet may not be the most diverse, you should still be able to cook up a decent meal on the road. Wine and local craft beer is also super cheap, so if all else fails, opt for a liquid lunch!
Stocking up on food for the duration of your hike in Torres del Paine from the supermarkets in Puerto Natales is the cheapest option, just make sure you bring cooking facilities as these are not available at all campgrounds.
A one-hour trail from the main entrance of the park leads up to a viewpoint of the glacier from where you can watch chunks of ice calving from the glacier and the meltwater waterfall that plunges into the lake below.
Visitors traditionally stop at the seven most impressive lakes, where free and serviced campgrounds ($8 per night) allow you to pitch up on their shores. Visit with your own vehicle to take advantage of the lakeside camping as buses drive this route without stopping.
Staying in El Chaltén is not the cheapest (a bed in a dorm room will set you back at least $18 USD and will need to be booked in advance during the high season), but the access to day hikes, such as spectacular Laguna de Los Tres (12.5km) and Laguna Torres (11km), completely make up for it.
Getting the bus to Torres del Paine is about 6 hours either way and a little further for Puerto Natales. To explore Torres del Paine it is best to stay in the park for a few days. Do you want to hike the W trek? You can stay in a tent (you can rent from town) or book a dorm bed but it is not cheap.
Hi Craig, When hiking in Torres del Paine there are only a few hotels you can hike from. We recommend Eco Camp. You can do different hikes with them or on your own to different parts of the park. You can hike the W trek on your own and book at the accommodation places. They are not cheap but the price includes dinner and breakfast. If you choose to do this option, you need to book the accommodation in advance. As for the entrance fee you get that on the day you enter and that will last for the period you are in the park. Have a great trip
Rental cars in Patagonia are really not that expensive. In fact, they were much cheaper than I expected! We paid less than $450 USD for a rental car for 10 days. Which between the four of us actually worked out cheaper than taking busses! (Price in 2019).
Tip: When I was researching Patagonia rental car prices, I found that it was the cheapest to rent a car from Punta Arenas airport over other locations. This might be something worth looking into if you are on a tight budget!
In fact, even in cities like Punta Arenas or the busy tourist streets in Puerto Natales, everything is very calm. No traffic, no chaos, and great organization. People follow traffic lights and there are road signs everywhere.
Google Maps disappointed us a couple of times during our Patagonia road trip. We did use Google Maps every time we got in the car and while it was fine in towns and cities, it often took us on less desirable routes when we were out in the middle of nowhere.
How much is fuel? In Chile, it was about 1,332 CLP (around $1.37 USD) per liter, and in Argentina, it was about 146 ARS (around $1 USD) per litre (prices as of September 2022.) In Argentina, it was much cheaper, so we fueled up there before crossing the border back to Chile.
Keep in mind, REI sells hiking gear from a wide variety of brands, whereas Patagonia sticks to its own products. This may affect sizing, pricing, quality, eco-friendliness and a number of other things.
