This is a stunning collector quality Megalodon tooth. The enamel, and root are very nice. The bourrelet contains stunning streaks of pyrite. It shines like glitter and is a cool feature of this amazing tooth. The serrations are sharp and most are in place. Unlike many lighter and more fragile imported teeth on the market this is a very solid and heavy tooth that I found diving near Savannah GA. Includes display stand, certificate of authenticity.

The Megalodon went extinct 2.6 million years ago. This extinction is primarily attributed to a changing environment and cooling oceans worldwide.Megalodon could reach a maximum length of around 60-70 feet long. Compare that to the largest great white sharks which reach a maximum size of 21 feet. The Megalodon's primary prey was large sea mammals such as whales, sea cows and sea lions. The largest Megalodon tooth ever found is 7.48 inches though teeth over 6 inches are very rare. The largest great white teeth were less than 3 inches.Megalodon teeth are measured on the slant, using the longest side as the length.Megalodon's and all sharks shed their teeth frequently during their lifetime's as they grew or teeth became worn. An adult Megalodon shark would have shed thousands of teeth during its lifetime. This is also the reason smaller Megalodon teeth (
Megalodon teeth are relatively common fossils in many locations. The reasons for this is that the Megalodon (and other sharks) shed their teeth during their lifetime or as they grew. An adult Megalodon likely would shed several thousands teeth during its lifetime.Teeth also tend to fossilize pretty easily. Larger teeth tend to much rarer as there were progressively fewer larger sharks than smaller ones, and the vast majority of fossil Megalodon teeth that are found are not complete or damaged. So, while Megalodon teeth are common, large, good quality specimens can be very rare. Most fossil Megalodon teeth that are found are relatively small, maybe around 2-3 inches long. A Megalodon was not born with massive 6 inch teeth but rather shed and replaced there teeth with progressively larger ones as they grew. Since few sharks would have survived to adulthood, there would be far more small Megalodon teeth than large ones.
Megalodon teeth are always measured using the diagonal length from the corner of the root to the tip of the tooth. The longer of the two diagonals is the length of the tooth. I always use digital calipers to get measurements to the 1/100th of an inch as small changes in tooth size can have a big impact in price with large teeth.Megalodon teeth are measured on the diagonal from top to root lobe.
Even for the most experienced fossil collector, looking at and sifting through Megalodon teeth to purchase can be overwhelming. You probably have a lot of questions about the pricing of Megalodon teeth, and what you should spend.
The first step is to ask yourself why you are purchasing supersized shark teeth. Is it for your personal collection Is it a gift Who is the recipient These questions are important because an experienced collector needs a better fossil at a higher price point than a child just beginning to explore fossils and shark teeth.
We think Hawaii gifts are appropriate all year around but, of course, there are some occasions where they check all the boxes even more. All of the gifts mentioned above are great for all ages, so birthdays are a wonderful opportunity for gifting a special piece of jewelry, fossil, or healing crystal.
Computer models suggest that a full-grown Megalodon had the most powerful bite of any known animal in the fossil record, somewhere between 11 and 18 tonnes or 25,000-40,000 pounds. This epic jaw was also lined with enormous teeth - 46 in the front row, to be exact, with 5 more rows waiting behind.
The fossil teeth seen here were once a part of the Megalodon's arsenal, but today they are portals into our planet's prehistoric past. With these fossils, you can study the life of one of the most terrifying predators to ever swim the seas and get up close and personal with an incredible historic item.
MEGALODON TEETH BUYERS GUIDEThere are many Megalodon teeth for sale and collector interest is surging. Knowing if you are getting the best value for your investment can be intimidating as you navigate the waters of what is for sale. Below are some key factors to look for when shopping for Megalodon teeth. The pricing of these teeth can be confusing to understand so before you dive in, it is recommended to read up on what affects their pricing and rarity.
Megalodon teeth of the highest quality, size and beauty are the rarest. They possess insatiable collector demand far in excess of their availability hence, they have proven to be one of the most promising investment fossils. Their demand continues to grow strongly and the few regions that such quality Megalodon teeth are found are now, either off-limits to public collecting, or have been heavily collected out over the past decades to feed such demand in the market. Most often, we see collectors spending a fortune over time, amassing a large collection of common, everyday pieces. The sum of what was spent could have purchased a few incredible specimens. For every tooth that a diver finds of top quality, thousands of junk teeth are found and it is these that you typically see for sale. Sure they sell for much less but they will NEVER go up in price - there are simply too many of the common teeth. To have a single tooth in your collection of the quality offered here, can give much more pride and enjoyment than having a room filled with mediocre junk. We advise collectors all the time, of this principal. It is true for any rare collectible - BUY THE BEST
Fossil fans short on time but long on interest often declare their trip to Florida to be a bonanza because they get two sites for the price of one! By following the Peace River to Venice where so many shark teeth wash ashore on a regular basis, you could just hang out and wait for them to come in with the tide.
The bad news is that while megalodon teeth have been known to wash up on shore, you could age in place waiting for that to happen. Alternately, the area south of the Venice Jetty plus Casey and Manasota Keys are potential tooth goldmines.
Well...The ancient Hawaiians wore shark tooth necklaces as a symbol of protection. Legend has it that shark teeth were meant to protect you while going out to sea. This is based on a myth of a young Hawaiian warrior who came from battle victorious while wearing a shark tooth necklace! Once you put on one of our shark tooth necklaces, you will become a Hawaiian Warrior yourself... honestly speaking though, you won't, but wouldn't that be cool Unless you train as a warrior with swords and stuff... which would be super freakin' cool! 59ce067264
