Boden informs Hermann that he will be acting lieutenant on Truck 81 for the day because Casey and Gabby are volunteering for a charity race event at Chicago Medical. Hermann initially says he needs more time to prepare but agrees. Casey and Gabby run into Burgess, who is watching her niece, when the two are sharing tent space and the two help her get set up. Gabby heads inside to go get registered for the race. Shortly after a car bomb detonates outside the hospital, Casey immediately begins helping survivors outside the hospital while Dawson is missing. Firehouse 51 and others from the Chicago Fire Department arrive and begin search and rescue. Boden sends Cruz and Mills to look for a secondary bomb. Shay heads inside with Dr. Holly Whelan, a pediatrics doctor, to look for more injured, accidentally injuring herself on rebar. Doctors begin to treat Burgess's niece who sustained a crushed liver and is bleeding internally as a result of the explosion. Mills finds a secondary car bomb in a parking structure adjacent to the hospital. Casey and Severide head into a confined space of rubble in search of Gabby. Boden meets Mills and Cruz and find the second bomb is set to detonate at 8:30 PM but Mills successfully diffuses the bomb. Rafferty, Shay, and Whelan are asked to tag additional patients as more survivors are found. Burgess's niece is immediately rushed into surgery and needs a liver transplant. Gabby regains consciousness and is able to alert Casey and Severide to her position. Whelan's sister, who initially seemed to only have a minor concussion, has a seizure and is diagnosed with a subdural hematoma; as a result she is also rushed into surgery. The doctor finds a liver that was initially planned for a Syrian ambassador to the United States and prepares for the transplant but the organ was damaged in the explosion. Casey and Severide find Gabby and the rest of the team begins to dig them out. Atwater arrives to console a distraught Burgess. Voight, Lindsay, Antonio, and Halstead of the Chicago Police Department's intelligence unit as well as Illinois State Police, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Department of Homeland Security, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Central Intelligence Agency arrive to begin investigating the bombing. Shay collapses in the hospital as a result of her injuries.
Eleanor, Jason, and Janet escape on a train to a zone of the afterlife outside of the Good and Bad Places. Eleanor recalls the day she died - she was shopping for groceries and while exiting the store, a young man who worked for an environmentalist agency approached her, only for her to rudely brush him off before getting hit by a column of runaway shopping carts pushing her into the path of an oncoming truck. She wakes up when Janet says they've reached their destination. They discover they're in the Medium Place and meet its sole inhabitant, Mindy St. Claire, who freaks out screaming when she sees them, as she's naked and has been alone up until now. After taking them to her house and dressing up, Mindy recounts her story to the group - she was a high-powered corporate attorney who practiced during the 1980s and generally led a selfish life. One day, however, during a massive cocaine bender, she came up with an idea to form a massive global charity and withdrew all of her money, only to die in an accident shortly afterward. Mindy's sister found the designs and was so inspired by it that she created the charity in Mindy's name, which went on to help millions of people. Both the Good Place and the Bad Place argued over whether or not Mindy should receive credit for the good things done in her name. Unable to agree where Mindy should go, a compromise was formed and they created a new afterlife neighborhood just for her: The Medium Place, an afterlife designed to be as mediocre as possible. Eleanor realizes that this medium afterlife isn't all that great either, as Mindy is isolated and clearly bored out of her mind with little else to do besides watch Cannonball Run 2 and masturbate constantly, desperately hankering to have some cocaine again.
Back home, Junior proudly unveils his new website: SaveWalterWhite.com, where visitors can donate funds for Walt's surgery. Walt is mortified by the appeal for charity, but Skyler says that it would crush their son if Walt made him take it down, questioning why he is so offended. Saul tells Walt that he knows of a hacker in Belarus who will launder Walt's drug money through his son's website. Walt resents the idea, as this would mean his family would never know he was responsible for the cash. Meanwhile, a doped-out Jesse complains to Jane that Walt owes him $480,000; she is astonished by the amount.
Meanwhile, Diane considers her next career move after the success of One Trick Pony. She is contacted by celebrity philanthropist Sebastian St. Clair, who is doing charity and humanitarian work in a foreign country, and wants Diane to travel with him to write a memoir for him similar to what she did for BoJack. At the same time, she is contacted by the producers of the Secretariat film to be a character consultant, and she is stuck with choosing between the two options.

Lola accepts an invitation from her colleague Albert Campbell to attend an annual charity gala. Benner gets her assigned to handle the case of Jeremy Moore, whose estranged mother, congresswoman Valerie Moore, exerts pressure on Lola to clear her son after Emily succeeds in getting a bench trial approved. Mark has to prosecute a doctor accused of racial bias that led to a black woman, Joy Allen, dying of complications from childbirth. He and Joy's husband, Niles, mount a vigorous effort to sway the jury to their side; Campbell, who is presiding, asks Lola for her perspective as he cannot comprehend how race has anything to do with Joy's death. A witness in Jeremy's trial lies under oath, claiming he planned the crime in advance. Emily forces him and his mother to reveal the truth: the witness blackmailed Jeremy by threatening to publicize Valerie's bipolar disorder. This information enables Lola to have the witness arrested and give Jeremy a lighter sentence. Mark loses the case, but makes up for it by arranging for Niles to give a press conference addressing medical discrimination against black mothers. 781b155fdc
