First, avoid performing any other operations (in Mac OS X or third-party applications) while the update process is occurring. In addition, before installing this security update, make sure all Apple-installed applications and utilities are in their original locations. Moving one of these applications to a different location on your hard drive can lead to an incomplete update. Also, disconnect any FireWire/USB devices before applying Mac OS X 10.4.6 (except for your startup drive, if it is FireWire or USB), then re-connect the devices one by one after the update process is complete and the system has restarted.
As with previous iterative Mac OS X releases, the startup time after first installing Mac OS X 10.4.6 can be inordinately long. Don't panic if you are stuck at the grey progress screen for several minutes after the update. Subsequent restarts should take place at normal speed.
Three workaround routines will solve many of the issues that are indirectly caused by Mac OS X 10.4.6 installation (i.e. not due to bugs or flaws in the update, but pre-existing system conditions that may be triggered by the updater process).
Re-apply the Mac OS X 10.4.6 combo updater A workaround that has proved successful for various problems caused by previous incremental Mac OS X updaters is re-application of the current combination updater (PowerPC or Intel). Doing so overwrites potentially problem-causing files that were not replaced by the \"Delta\" (adjacent version-to-version) update.
You can download the operating system software file from - os/mac-os-x-tiger-10-4/ and download the software file and reboot the system to actually boot the system again to get your hands on the Mac OS X Tiger and enjoy the experience.
Your unit came with Panther (10.3). You can get a copy of the original Grey disk from Apple for about $15. If you want Tiger you need to buy a Retail copy (Black) to do the install. Apple has not had a downloadable OS since OS-9. You could probably find a illegal copy online but most people find problems with such downloads including trojans and other malware.
Regarding the version, any OSX 10.4 will work on any Powerbook G4 except for the Powerbook G4 (Dual Layer SD) which requires 10.4.2. Accoding to your post stating model A1010 or A1104, you will have no problem wiht any 10.4 disc, as long as it's not a disc form another mac (the gray discs).
You will need either a retail version of 10.4 or a upgrade 10.4 if you have 10.3. You can also use machine specific (gray disks) made specifically for your machine (beware of the gray disks made for other machines with the exception of the gray eMac disks which install on all the machines. FastMac carries all these disks:

Shutdown times in the Energy Saver System Preferences will now work as expected when the user is at the login window. With 10.4.6, if you change your login password at the Login window, you will now be given an opportunity to apply the same change to your default keychain.

Due to a recently discovered PACE copy protection bug, some users may experience instability and/or crashes when launching Pro Tools, opening a session, or dismissing a trial-period dialog if any Pace-wrapped third party plug-ins are installed. The fix for this bug is in the latest PACE drivers included and installed automatically within the Pro Tools software installer. Updates to all plug-ins are also necessary to prevent instability and/or crashes. All plug-ins supplied with the Pro Tools 6.2.3 installer have been fixed. To determine which plug-ins are affected, we have included a utility which will scan your Plug-Ins folder and list all plug-ins that need to be updated. To use this utility, just launch the \"Digidesign Plug-In Validator\" application located in your Pro Tools Utilities folder. If any of your non-Digidesign plug-ins have not been updated, they will be listed in the display window. Please visit the Web site for the manufacturer of any affected plug-ins and download the update (if available), or ask the manufacturer when one will be available. Even if you do not have updates for all your plug-ins, instability will only occur immediately after adding or removing a plug-in from your Pro Tools Plug-Ins folder. After the first crash and subsequent reboot, you should not see any further problems, unless you then add or remove plug-ins from the Plug-Ins folder.
Digidesign strongly advises downloading the Combined Update if you have a high speed connection, rather than using the smaller incremental update. Also, if you have used Software Update on your system, you may need to download the combined installer and use that to install all of the required components included in the combined update.
If you already have Mac OS 10.2, 10.2.1, 10.2.2, 10.2.3, 10.2.4, 10.2.5, 10.2.6 or 10.2.7, the following AppleCare KnowledgeBase Documents have information and downloadable standalone update installers.
Downloading and using different Mac OS installers is very common for troubleshooting purposes, for IT staff and admins, and for tinkerers. This article will discuss where to download and access installers for macOS Ventura 13, MacOS Monterey 12, macOS Big Sur 11, macOS Catalina, MacOS Mojave, MacOS High Sierra, macOS Sierra, Mac OS X El Capitan, OS X Yosemite, OS X Mavericks, Mac OS X Mountain Lion, Mac OS X Lion, Mac OS X Snow Leopard, Mac OS X Leopard, Mac OS X Tiger, and others too.

Another option is to peruse the Apple Vintage Software collection at Archive.org which may have image files of older system restore disks and other older system software, just beware that archive.org is not an official distributor of Apple software so appropriate precautions should be taken and only download from there at your own risk.
Note: MacAnova is no longer maintained and we recommend R, which is available from www.r-project.org.You can download just one file and have everything needed for astandard installation on Windows or Mac OS X. For the Macintosh, the file is a disk image (.dmg file);for Windows the fileis an installer program.
